Seems like a cure to the Bieber fever has been found! Her name is Esperanza Spalding and she swooped up the Best New Artist honour from names like, ahem, Justin Bieber, Florence and the Machine, Drake and Mumford and Sons at the Grammy Awards!
So what is she all about? Well she is a 26 year-old jazz singer and musician from the U.S.A and seems to be a versatile artist with, you know, natural talent. And while there is no doubt the Biebs has what you would call star power, his music leaves much to be desired if your not a 12-year-old girl.

Is Lady Gaga losing her touch?
So Lady Gaga was carried on the Grammy red carpet in...an egg. It was part of her reborn/incubation image. She even 'hatched' out of it on stage when it was time for her performance of 'Born This Way'. And get this, she wore a nude bodysuit! She led a dance number, grabbed her crotch and all of those theatrics amounted to...a very big yawn.
It seems the Lady Gaga shock value has lessened and we cannot be more glad! What she has received though is a ton of controversy for the new song. It was hard not to notice the similarity to Madonna's Express Yourself. Oh Gaga, have you finally outdone even yourself?

Is Rihanna too sick for the Grammy Awards?
Uh oh, she is one of the performers everyone really wanted to see onstage and now Rihanna is down and out with the nasty flu bug.
She was also supposed to perform at a gala benefiting a cancer research fund, but she could not make it to due her illness. Yikes, we hope she gets loads of bed rest and vitamin C before the all important Grammys on Sunday night!

Going digital - all the way
New media forms bring with it new opportunities and the Grammy Award organisers are forming a great synergy for those who want to go beyond just the award show! The Grammy website will be doing a live three-day broadcast of the build up to the show (it will be on You Tube as well) which will include VIP videos, photos, tweets and official news reports.
"The Recording Academy is proud to partner with AEG Digital Media, YouTube, and our sponsor TurboTax to bring GRAMMY Live to music fans worldwide. We are thrilled to provide an online only experience enabling fans to interact with their favorite GRAMMY moments, artists, events, and more, for three very exciting day," says Peter Anton, The Recording Academy®'s Vice President of Digital Media. It sounds too exciting not to tune in!

Jagger to perform at the Grammy Awards
Oh my my, what a treat this is going to be! Mick Jagger will be performing at this year's Grammy Awards, just a few days away!
Jagger will perform along side Raphael Saadiq and his band for the annual 'In Memoriam' tribute, which pays homage to members of the musical industry who have passed away during the previous year. This year, they will honour the memory of the late Grammy winner Solomon Burke.
This will be Jagger's first ever live appearance on the Grammy stage. Jagger last appeared before the awards show via satellite in 1986 when Eric Clapton awarded the Rolling Stones with the Recording Academy® Lifetime Achievement Award.

The stars shine bright
Eminem, Lady Gaga, Katy Perry, Miranda Lambert, Cee Lo Green and Arcade Fire - so many top notch performers in a single sentence, and they have been confirmed as the first artists featured at the Grammy Awards on 13 February!
Arcade Fire and Miranda Lambert will perform at the first ever Grammy telecast while the rest of the artists will return to the Grammy stage. And as we all know, most performances at this award show are to die for! Who can possibly forget Michael Jackson's 1988 performance of 'Man in the Mirror' where he debuted the quadruple spin? Or back in 2001 when Elton John and Eminem shared the stage for 'Stan', despite some of Eminem's homophobic lyrics. What a fabulous way to kiss and make up with the gay community! We wonder what sorta history will be made this year, eh?
